H.I.M.

Filed under: Angry, Friends, My Life, Self Pity — happychick @ 6.38p07

images2.jpg There’s this band called H.I.M, which I recently discovered through a friend and really like. They play what’s called “Love Metal”. It’s really catchy and I’m planning to buy their album next time I drag my ass down to the shops. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I have a very weird taste in music. I like punk stuff like My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and H.I.M. (which, in case you wanted to know, stands for His Infernal Majesty), but my iPod is home to Queen, Kelly Clarkson, Greenday and Pete Murray too. My point is, I despise labels, and anyone who tries to label me as a “punk” or an “emo” or whatever, can go and slit their own wrists. (Ok, not really, coz that’s horrible and I would never want to be responsible for something like that, but anyway…). This, combined with a number of other factors, is why what happened today upset me so much.

Pete and I rarely fight. When we do, it’s usually because I have PMS, and I will freely admit my wrong-doing within the hour. But this afternoon was different. Pete got really angry with me when he saw that my MSN display picture was of the Heartagram (see above)- the H.I.M. symbol. He went off tap. “What the f*!$’s with your dp?” “Are you like, slit-your-wrists-emo now or something?” I was like, huh???

“That band is scary. You’re scaring me. I don’t like them”. I was like;

1. It’s not emo. It’s metal.

2. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.

3. You’re being a prat.

So anyway, he got in a huff and signed out. I was really upset. It just, it really hurt my feelings to know that if I changed a little bit that he wouldn’t respect me. I have no intention of turning into an emo. I do not plan to slit my wrists, wear heavy eye make-up, dress in black and foresake my friends.

It’s just a band. But it’s amazing how much a band can do, depending on the situation.

Give them a listen. You probably won’t like them, but then again, there’s no pleasing everyone. H.I.M.

  1. But is emo better than emjoi? Seriously, give him a little time, maybe he just got a shock. Believe it or not, I can remember how important these things (music choices) used to feel. You seem to be ahead in the maturity stakes so give him a bit of time to come around, but don’t take any shit!

  2. I like the music…but must admit I didn’t even listen to the words. Openmindedness is not generally a trait of the young (esp boys). Because he doesn’t like the music you listen to doesn’t mean you are wrong. I love the fact that you stand up for yourself. You go girl.

  3. i bumped into H.I.M. a while ago but dont like their music, though it’s metal. i hate rap, classic & anything that doesnt give headaches but i think we gotta respect others for their taste of music. guess pete’s over-acting

  4. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    H.I.M. is not a good band =( Even so, he was an ignorant dumbass. You should dump him and move to Albuquerque if you want a real manboy! Kidding, of course. Just don’t listen to Dragonforce and I won’t have to haunt you when I die.

  5. I completely anticipated that reaction from you, Jonathon. And quite frankly, I am dissapointed that you would even think I would listen to Dragonforce. 😦 I like the sound of this Alberquerque idea- but isn’t it cold there?

  6. How cold it depends on what hour you show up. It’s pretty much just a crapshoot every day.

  7. WTF is a crapshoot? 🙂

  8. Don’t americans have the wildest slang? 😀

    Crapshoot = gamble. Anybodys guess.

    Albuquerque is beautiful – I’m gonna live there when I retire. The Bastardette lives there. It is the desert.
